Sometimes the newsletter is feast, other times famine. This one is famine.

LOOKING FOR THOSE POLICE AND FIRE THAT RETIRED IN THE LAST 3 YEARS ON JOB RELATED DISABILITY

The Association requested names of all persons who received service connected disability retirement, by the Portsmouth Fire / Police Retirement Board.    The City Attorney responded that this information is excluded from the Freedom of Information Act.  We need the names of police and fire employees who retired under Workmen Compensation I the last three years.

REPORT ON WORKMEN COMPENSATION

At our September meeting Rick Gaddis will give   a   report   concerning   workmen compensation. This is important.

ELECTION REMINDER

We should have a list of nominees at the September meeting. If you are willing to hold office contact any member of the present board. Contact numbers are listed at the bottom of the newsletter.

NEWSPAPER ARTICLE CONCERNING SOCIAL SECURITY

Attached is an article "Why Deficits Matter" that ran in the Virginian Pilot September 11,


 

 

2004 concerning social security.   This is nothing that our Association would be involved in but is or should be of concern to all.

CHRISTMAS PARTY

Last month President Gaddis appointed Ed Mizell to the Holiday Committee.  We are expecting a report at our meeting.

Chaplain, Claude Bour, asks if you, your family member or a retiree is ill or in need please contact him at 757-393-2198. Should you miss him please leave a message on his answering machine, it is on all the time.

GOOD AND WELFARE

Please keep the following in your prayers:

Jerry Myers, Stewart Wells, Johnny Hamilton, Wayne Leyda, Gene England (Gene and Betty are located in W. VA, the Good Lord was watching out for them and they went unscathed during Ivan's recent visit)
